What:

Union Plaza is the name of an exciting new urban park located in a three-block area in the heart of Lincoln between 21st and 22nd, O to R Streets. This high-amenity park is the centerpiece of the Antelope Valley project which will provide flood control, road improvements and community revitalization along Antelope Creek in Lincoln.

In 2006, a group of Lincoln business and civic leaders, now known as 2015 Vision, identified 10 Pillars to insure the strength of Lincoln's Future, including Union Plaza.

Features:

Park features include fountains, seating areas, an outdoor amphitheater, an overlook area, a children's play area, a new trail connection, a pond plaza, public art, and a plaza walkway suitable for community events and festivals.

Size:

Approximately six acres, located directly south of Trago Park and the Malone Community Center, on both sides of the Antelope Creek channel.

Cost:

Basic Park Improvements: $3.3 million

Park Features and Amenities: $3.1 million

Park Endowment: $1.5 million

Funding:

Public/private partnership between City of Lincoln (keno funds), 2015 Vision, the Lincoln Parks Foundation, and individual and corporate donors.

Timeline:

March 2008 -- Lincoln Parks Foundation announces community fundraising campaign.

Summer 2008 -- US Corps of Engineers begins Antelope Creek channel construction.

Summer 2009 -- Construction of park features and amenities begins.

Fall 2010 - Park completed and open to the public.
