CENTENNIAL MALL
Location: Centennial Mall, located along the north axis of the Nebraska State Capitol Building, extends seven blocks from K Street to R Street in downtown Lincoln.
Centennial Mall is one of four axial malls and view corridors envisioned by Bertram Goodhue, renowned designer of the State Capitol Building. Centennial Mall as it exists today was designed by Larry Enersen. The two southern blocks and the two northern blocks are closed to vehicular traffic. The central three blocks are open to vehicular traffic and parking. The Enersen design is a series of stepped planes with concrete pavement, turf or water fountain. Either side of the Mall is flanked by Red Oaks framing the Capitol vista. In some areas lower ornamental trees and shrubs border the perimeter of the mall.
The Mall was dedicated in 1968 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Statehood of Nebraska. During the intervening 40 years, the infrastructure and landscape plantings of along the Mall have become aged to the point of deteriorating condition and are beyond the point of practical repair. Combined with current functional needs within the downtown area, the requirements for improved access for the disabled and the necessity for a low-maintenance landscape, dictate a comprehensive redesign and redevelopment of the Centennial Mall.
The Lincoln Parks Foundation has recently been solicited by City Leaders to become involved in the Statewide Capital Campaign that will soon be organized to fund the renovation of this historic space. If you are interested in being involved with this project as a donor or volunteer, please contact us.

Sherman Field Renovation
Location: Sherman Field, 2nd and South Streets
From 1947 to 1961, Sherman Field was home to a Minor League Baseball team. Players including Satchel Paige, Nellie Fox and Bobby Shantz graced this field before moving to the Major Leagues.
Since 1961, the field has been used for American Legion and High School youth baseball. Over 6,000 boys of summer have learned to win and lose on these grounds. One of the best Husker Baseball teams ever included players who grew up in part on Sherman Field -- Joba Chamberlain, Alex Gordon, Jeff Christy and Andy Gerch.
Interested parties are exploring the possibility of a fundraising campaign to renovate Sherman Field. If you are interested in supporting this needed effort with your time or financial resources, please contact Steve Hiller at 402-441-8266. Help us keep the tradition alive and strong.
